The ALE Club Announces the 3rd annual Iron Brewer III Competition for 2010.

We want to test your creativity and brewing skills – and have some fun while doing it.

Here’s what the competition is:
Each brewer who participates creates an original recipe for any style of beer, wine or cider (any volume & OG). You can use as much or as little of any malt/ adjunct/ ingredient as you choose – but you MUST use the White Labs WLP500 Trappist Ale Yeast supplied by the ALE Club as the ”secret ingredient” in your recipe. Each brewer is to supply their own ingredients for their brew (except for the yeast of course).

Brewing starts February 1st. No beers, wines or ciders created before that date can be entered in the Iron Brewer Competition, nor can you use any other yeast than those supplied by the ALE Club. The ALE Club will announce at a later date (soon) when we will distribute the yeast (distribution will probably be at the Annual Meeting in mid-January). The ALE Club will charge $10.00 for an entry fee for each Brewer that enters the Iron Brewer III competition (sorry for the price increase – yeast prices have gone nuts!). You will receive TWO tubes of the WLP500 Trappist Ale Yeast for your use. You may use one or both in your batch – that is up to you.

Complete competition rules and entry forms can be found here: 2010 Iron Brewer Comp Rules

Awards/ Tasting & Party

Iron Brewers, ALE Club members and Guests are welcome for the Awards & Tasting Party for the Iron Brews. Everyone is asked to bring a side dish or appetizer to share for the tasting & party.

The Awards & Tasting will be held Saturday, October 2nd at the Old Bavarian Restaurant Banquet Hall, 3025 College Ave, Appleton. The Awards & Tasting will start after Judging at approximately 3:00 PM.

Out of town visitors are encouraged to spend Saturday night at the Best Western Fox River Inn which is adjacent to the Restaurant.

==========================================

Congratulations to the 2009 Iron Brewer Best of Show and People’s Choice Winner Steve Olson for his “Raspberry Imperial Stout”.
